Celebrated since 1968, this year’s theme, "Family Planning: It’s Right, Let’s Make it Real," encourages individuals to "plan their future, plan their families to beat poverty, gain equity, and beat maternal death."
The United Nations Population Fund will hold a forum in Makati City on the world population theme, followed by the awarding of winners of the first WPD essay- writing contest.
According to the UN agency, the Philippines is the 12th most populous nation in the world today, with an estimated population of 88.7 million.
China is the most populous country in the world with 1.32 billion people, 19.84 percent of the world’s total population of 6.7 billion. Next is India with about 1.13 billion people or 16.96 percent of the world’s total.
